Assorted premature thoughts on Breivik

I’m not sure, but this appears to be the first use of Family Circle cartoon art in a mass killer’s video manifesto. Eerie. For a guy who clearly hates both the modern and the postmodern, he sure hit the postmodern gong hard with his media technique.

Breivik managed to repeat the last 15 minutes of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. It reminds me of Timothy McVeigh’s identification with DeNiro’s heroic HVAC guy in Brazil. Have we reached a singularity of satire, culture war, confused thinking, and fertilizer bombs?

Breivik says he’s anti-Nazi, because he hates all modern collective post-Christian socialist ideas. But he would have got on great with Himmler and his crazy medieval Teutonic Knight Arthurian mysticism. That idealized medieval agrarian dream of the racially pure heartland is the European version of Imaginary 1903 Tennessee as imagined by reactionaries here in the U.S. Everyone’s stuck with the hell of modern industrial life, but powerful people hold out that idyllic dream of a small farm town to everyone who’s alienated.

And finally, what makes the difference between the internet comment person who talks like this guy, and the one who actually does the deed? Is there any way to tell?

Sometimes the kids and their subcultures should be ignored. I mean, you know, your kid is gonna be a goth or something, it happens, they’re all angsty, and then they get their AA and learn drywall or something and just start drinking like you.

Nayagarah (Orissa), Nov 4 (PTI) Three persons were today arrested on the charge of killing a seven-year-old girl to appease Goddess Kali on Diwali at Nagajhar village in Orissa’s Nayagarh district, police said. The three – Braja Pradhan, Sudam Pradhan and Akhila Pradhan – were later produced before the court of the First Class Judicial Magistrate, Ranapur, who remanded them to judicial custody for 14 days.

Another person, said to be a ‘tantrik’ (one who performs cult worship rituals to invoke the deity) and wanted in connection with the incident, was absconding.

The girl Susha, daughter of one Biranchi Pradhan of Bimbadharpur village was sacrificed before the goddess at the local Kali temple at Nagajhar under Ranapur police station after being kidnapped.

All the three have confessed that they had committed the crime , the sources claimed.

Susha, had been kidnapped by the accused persons, as guided by the tantrik, while playing with her friends on the evening of Diwali. Her father had lodged an FIR with the police after she went missing.

The body was found floating in a pond yesterday after which the police was informed. A case had been registered and further investigation was on, the sources said.

Local people also staged a protest yesterday demanding the arrest of the culprits.

It was alleged that in the 1980s a young boy had been sacrificed at the nearby Maninag temple, which is located on a hill top.

Kermie? Sometimes my arms bend backwards.

This new icon, which I received from the lovely and talented rumplestiltskin rumplestimpskin sparked a conversation back and forth with theodora last night. Because Kermit is flailing in front of red curtains it reminded her of Twin Peaks, and we began casting a remake of Twin Peaks starring only Muppets.

I think the best thing to start with is to give almost all the female parts to Miss Piggy. Maybe Donna Hayward can be played by Janice, the musician and nurse with the big lipstick. But a vast array of Miss Piggies in all pretty girl or crazy lady roles seems best, partly because Miss Piggy will kick our asses if we don’t give her the pretty girl roles and will shine in the crazy lady ones. I mean, she IS Nadine, and she’ll demand to be Laura Palmer. Josie will be a stretch for her, but I can’t for the moment think of any Muppets who could easily do a very intense Chinese lady with close-cropped hair. Other casting by my own prejudices is below:

I’m having trouble casting Albert Rosenfield, Ed Hurley, Leo, Bobby Briggs, and a few others.

On the subject of Bob, the first thing that comes to mind is Animal, but Animal is far too innocent and bouncy despite the hair. I was thinking maybe Zoot or Sgt. Floyd Pepper from Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, but part of me just wants to go for the gold and give Gonzo the part.

internet murder news from all over

So, yeah, they found the body of the 17-year-old girl who got murdered in VA. And they have a person of interest whom she met on the Internets. And they both have LJs and myspaces, and he has a deviantart gallery with lots of creepy-ass pictures of young-looking girls, and her LJ name is “jailbait” backwards, and it’s really fucking depressing.

Whether or not homeboy is a murderer, he’s certainly a disagreeable person. Also a shitty photographer.

In any case she’s dead, he’s in jail, and they’re both clichés. Except of course that she’s entitled to be a cliché at 17 and he has no excuse at 38.
