Worst vacation ever?

It was this neat country where, unlike many other places, no national I.D. card was possible, because its freedom-loving inhabitants wouldn’t tolerate anything more invasive than a driver license.

This has been a pretty successful vacation week. Saw a great show, ate well, didn’t get any tickets. Only got stood up twice. Met some neat people in SF. Tomorrow I shall mess around slo a bit more and then head homeward. Maybe I will stop in Solvang and have danechow.

Crap, out of bottled water. Now I’ll have to put on pants and go to the 7-11.

I am at the downtown SLO market stuffing my face with a bbq portuguese sausage sandwich in the rain. Life is good. Hils, where the hell are you? Are you a bot too?

I am in SLO. Today I confirmed the hepkitten is a bot! Also I got rained on but did not get a parking ticket. For dinner I had meat. The ladies in the bookstore were having a long conversation about some type of insectoid pet. SLO was full of people doing some wine and nibbles tour event that involved carrying wine glasses around and giggling.

Now I am reading and having a Fat Tire in my room. What will happen tomorrow?

Gang of Four were great. Everyone please send happy thoughts to genericus who is spending the wee hours at SFO before working a full day at the office.

Me, I get to sleep in and then tomorrow do wtf I want, followed by an evening with tuliphead and possibly anarqueso or other! Cool! People!

Now back to reading in my hotel room.

The old men outside Caffé Puccini are the opposite in all ways of the Cigar Guys.

I don’t watch a lot of TV, mainly because I work inside the TV and I have to do stuff for my job with it, and then I don’t want to any more.

But I watch TV in hotels, especially after a day of driving making me something something. So I got all caught up.

All TV is “reality” TV now. I don’t just mean that there are lots of those shows on. More than half the things I saw were shot and presented like reality shows. An otherwise interesting program about crab fishermen and their battle with the elements, etc. was edited like Survivor or MTV”s Real World: little profiles of the fishermen, flashbacks in grainy B&W, switching among “contestants”. Same cheesy narration, same faux-introspective interviews, the whole thing.

Couldn’t watch the “News” for more than 10 seconds at a time. Wow, that was painful.

I finally found an in-depth documentary about a years-long criminal investigation of gambling, corruption, organized crime, and manipulation of information for financial gain. The writing was opinionated but balanced, the story had nuance and detail, and it revealed the seamy underbelly of a popular activity.

It was about fixing boxing matches, and it was on ESPN2.

Right, then, back to not watching TV so much.

Going on at least 3 years now, they have not succeeded in securing the linux kernel new version announce list.
