It’s time to drop the bomb on Orange County.

weekly weird stuff wrapup
seen on the highway:
- Normal SUV with normal looking people in it. License: SCAT 4U
- Angry-looking woman with huge MORGAN STANLEY KEPT MY MONEY sign in car
- Three (3) separate pickup-bedliner-in-road incidents
- A methodist church advertising “world communion day” with a “multicultural feast”. Damn, that sounds good. As long as I get to avoid the food from Minnesotastan. Methodism, anyone?
- Microwave chitterlings ad on truck
i’m expressing myself RIGHT NOW
So, today sucked for quite a few reasons:
- Got up in the dark to pee and hit my head on a door, lump on head
- Got to see a friend screwed over by the Medical Establishment
- Had to get car fixed (door broken)
- Had to deal with bad friendship stuff that made me sad/upset
- A funny thing then happened (below)
- Had to get car repaired again because they screwed it up, shouting fight with them about it, very stressful
- More bad friendship stuff, even more stressful
salvation holdout central
Seen recently:
- A motorcyclist at a stoplight wearing a helmet that featured a full set of devil-style goat horns, top and bottom of the helmet. He was listening to death metal.
- Yet another sighting of the “Snacks – EVERYBODY LOVES THEM” truck
- Someone on craigslist.org wanting a crock pot for their home birth. (?!). Thanks .
- A documentary called “One September Day” about the Munich 1972 Olympics terror disaster. Really a must see for anyone interested in history. Lots of shockers; I wonder what we’ll know in 30 years about the more recent September?
- A brochure from the Post Office titled “Bombs by Mail” which looks like an ad for ordering them.
That should do it for today. I still want an iBook but I shouldn’t, I shouldn’t, I shouldn’t spend the money, money, money. Mustn’t. Really.
God never listened to Charlie Parker

Fresh Air’s 9/11 anniversary show has a lovely interview and a couple of songs from Richard Thompson. He rules. If you have RealAudio, even if you hate RealAudio, listen 🙂
Scenes from the front lines: Technology
Large Computer Corporation has lent us a server at work so we can evaluate their technology. The machine is a loaner, so it comes with pieces of paper saying when it has to be back home, how to get it there, and most importantly what must be returned.
Apparently we’re in very big trouble if we don’t return everything on this list, which includes:
- Big Hingey Thing
- Bag-O-Screws
I think they’re skimping on training up there.

The Angeles National Forest is on fire, and it makes the city look like someone whacked Burbank with a 50 kiloton groundburst. Very sobering sight.
On my side of town, or at least where I work, I’m slaving away at various small tasks, some of which actually need doing. It’s hard to frame out the day sometimes so that it all makes sense when I’m writing some little perl program, and diagnosing some minor problem, and pricing some object, and none of it looks really big but I somehow have to do all of it. It’s preferable to huge crises, though.
I’m reading a book right now called The Supper of the Lamb. It’s a wonderfully mad cookbook written by a cantankerous Episcopalian priest. Highly recommended for anyone who likes reading about food, especially prejudices about food. It helps that I share most of his prejudices.
Can anyone recommend a good general history of the Indian subcontinent, or several books even? I want to begin educating myself about the history of the region but the books I see at bookstores are at the Golden Book for Kids level.
advertising lead-in hook du jour
“Fall is coming soon, and the last thing you want to be doing is worrying about your EYES.”
I go now to sit in a dark room with a gin ‘n’ tonic, worrying about my eyes.
My life in the bush of goats
groove to the noises of technological disaster!
Today I did the following
- Ate three eggs scrambled with too much bacon
- Ate a plate of butternut squash ravioli
- Smoked one Hoyo de Monterrey Prensado Oscuro
- Drank mint julep
- Drank four cups of regular coffee and one large iced latte
- Ate a peach
- Drove around aimlessly at high speed (85 mph, 5000 rpm) in my late model Japanese sport luxury coupe
- Drank lemonade
- Wrote a perl program for work
- Did medical things to the cat
I am the very model of a modern middle class consumer. If I hadn’t had all the bacon, the terrorists would already have won.
Wars are not won by wimpy music.
As usual, Sean has the solution to the world’s problems.
Upon receiving this fine site from the Psychoceramics list, I showed it to him, and his response:
TorgoX ignatz — let’s try to syndicate some decadent Eeslawmic heavy metal… on the INTERNET!!
TorgoX thus corrupting all the lackwitted 17-year-old teeth-grinding Saudi HOMIEZ
The West shall prevail. They cannot resist our Van Halen, nor our Judas Fucking Priest.
