I’m not sure fucked company is funny any more. The amount of corporate fraud and crashing in the last week is making me feel very 1929. I need a big hug.

In better news, I had pizza for dinner, and the cat doesn’t hate me even though I fed her late. I called the cops on the kids across the street (mean old mr. substitute) because they were firing off bottle rockets and I didn’t want my ‘hood to look the way the I-15 looked today. Things are a bit too hot ‘n’ dry for that shit.

Would anyone like to join an 80s one-hit wonder?

home again home again

With one last visit to Aquarius Records I ended my vacation and headed back south, stopping for lunch with . The Aquarius run netted me an old Savage Republic reissure from the 80s (Tragic Figures), a horrifically hilarious metal album by the GOAT THROWERS, some Bollywood soundtrack stuff, and Van Morrison’s infamous contract breaking record.

But I don’t have to go to work until Monday. Woo!

Not the Adolescents song this time, but the record store in the Haight. What a place. Picked up the new Butthole Surfers, some Negativland and Eugene Chadbourne, some SABBATH! and a nice Coltrane all for ~$70 because most of it was used.

Tonight it’s noodles followed by brisk walk followed by espresso I think. And then tomorrow I bid adieu to this fair city by the bay and drive back down.

What a lovely vacation it’s been!

walkin walkin walkin!

Today I walked up and down Mission in a fruitless quest for the misplaced Cartoon Art Museum, then walked the correct way on Mission and found it. It was nice, if a bit small. Very cool to see an original Gorey or two right up close. I then rehydrated in the Metreon, which is a big mall pretending to be the Future. The Future has not changed much since I was a kid.

After a suitable slump back at the hotel I ate too much french food at Cafe Claude (yum) and then bused off across town to meet and go for a walk with her in a very cool park the name of which I have just forgotten, but which had dogs and a great view, followed by beverages and conversation at a friendly Ethiopian-run cafe.

Altogether a very satisfying day. Tomorrow… RECORD SHOPPING! or something.

Wow, what a great town. I’m staying at this crazy hotel which is full of hip-hop musicians and burned out friendly old sixties rejects. I’m smack between Chinatown and Union Square, in a kind of tiny French Quarter.

So far I’ve mostly just done walking and eating, both very satisfactory. Had a tremendous Italian meal in a sidewalk cafe on a sunny afternoon, which is about as close to Paradise as I can get. Also one very nice Chinese meal (prawns with walnuts!). Tomorrow it’s off to museums, specifically the Cartoon Art Museum which has a Gorey exhibit.

I ate at John’s Grill tonight, of Maltese Falcon fame. I had a big piece of cow and two martinis. I dunno how businessmen in the old days had a “three martini lunch” since a “two martini dinner” left me feeling as though I’d been under a hippo.

I went to a Scottish Imports Store and bought a bottle of good single malt whisky from a laid off former dot-com sysadmin today. “I specialized in startups,” he said mournfully as he wrapped up my purchase, “I should have diversified when I hit it big the first time with Marimba.”
