quack

A discussion the other night about movie taglines reminded me of my favorite one. The film Howard the Duck was a terrible failure, one of the great failures of movie history as I understand it. However, the ads were great. There was the duck on the poster, poking his head through something and looking freaked, and the tagline was “Trapped in a world he never made.”

Which was enough of an in-joke that I’m sure they didn’t care at that point who didn’t get it; the movie was already tanked.

Who remembers why they used that? And can quote the source? Hm? 😉

Adventures aren’t fun when they’re happening

My boss quit today. His last day is the 14th.

We have no effing idea what we’re doing next; whether we’ll get a new boss, or our kinda-boss will “step in”, or one of us will be promoted, or what.

No one wants to be the boss, or to have a new one.

It’s a tad grim.

Light a candle for me!

Despite all this there is yet more green tea mochi ice cream.

I ordered ADSL but this is clearly POO

My DSL is back up today after an inexcusable outage that began Friday afternoon at 5 and continued until Monday. The outage knocked out several friends as well because I had pimpd out this company to everyone I know, causing me to become Patient Zero in a network failure epidemic.

On top of that the company was just short of insulting in their attitude, tossing away the idea of monitoring as “impossible” and basically blaming me for not informing them of the problem (“we rely on our customers”) when there was no way to reach them at all on a weekend with an emergency(!!!). I told them to fix both of those things within 30 days or I’m not their customer any more, much less their advocate. There was no response yet to this.

I’m in shock at their response, frankly. I am a lazy SOB but I can’t ethically encompass being this crappy to a customer. The worst part is, I’ve used these guys for years and know them socially.

Now service is up, but my 1.5M download speed has magically become 384K. So I’m getting much less bandwidth than I’m paying for now. Guess that isn’t worth checking or monitoring either.

I think I’m switching providers very soon. I don’t like getting this angry over buying stuff, it’s bad for my soul. And I’m angry enough right now to feel flushed and trembly.

My DSL has been toast since Friday, without any response from my ISP. I know them personally. They are all going to freakin’ die.

Mochi green tea ice cream rules.

I have been obsessively listening to the Dirty Dozen Brass Band in my car. Boy, they’re good.

The Jerkcity book is also good.

There’s no reason for you to have been reading any of this, is there?

The worst thing in 1954 was a bikini

I was at the MAUL today and outside the Apple store there was a line of people with their little welcome cards or something waiting to buy a new iPod. The usual tiresome egotistical Apple Store employee was there giving posters and stuff to people waiting in line to BUY SOMETHING.

I wish I’d come up with the Apple Cult. It’s great to see people sacrificing their time and energy to give someone else money.

someone remind me

Next time I’m going to go investigate some new online group of people, because they look interesting, and someone I know who is cool is involved, someone STOP me.

Because it’s the same every time. They’re paranoid little cliquish shits who exist only to have a little chunk of bozospace they keep others from enjoying.

I went through that on Efnet 5 years ago; never again.

Also, make sure I never move to Northern California.

Guh.
