Videodrome Loves You

I remember when these dumb TV screens showed up at Diedrich Coffee and a couple of other places, and they had a crawl with news and some ads on them and not too much else, and clearly it was held together with house ads and fear, and soon, we knew, it would be gone. Because who would put something like that in a coffeehouse?

Or… a bookstore…

Obviously these must be placed in libraries, houses of worship, operating rooms, aircraft cockpits, day care centers, campgrounds, and cemeteries as soon as possible.

They got those down at the DMV to calm the savage beasts. Weirdly enough, it seems to work.
There’s something about playing movie trivia while waiting for your tabs.

  2. We have 42″ plasmas ALL OVER our campus at school now. The Administration use it as a adspace, infoplaza, also tuned to Fox News so we are fed our dose of right-wing insanity. Unfortunately, they spent millions of dollars put in these plasmas and leather couches everywhere, but forgot to spend any money on a security or CCTV system. So guess what’s been going missing over the past few weeks? Leather Couches and Plsama TVs.
Our Administration is packed full of dumbasses.

This is the most hilariously accurate representation of an electric Santa’s noise I’ve ever read. I just snorfed some yogurt.

  4. Our research finds that people who enter or pass through bookstores are 43% more likely to be receptive to new ideas. That’s an uncaptured demographic.

  5. I think we should INSIST that they be placed in churches, mounted on the lectern. That way there can at least be some informational content to the service.

Oh man, if I saw that happen at the time WTTW used to play Doctor Who (which means watching in a dark room late at night) that would have freaked the shit out of me.

  6. My trip to Virginia this week seemed to be blanketed with an identical model of 30something inch flatscreens, all playing CNN. I am pretty sure every every airport, hotel, fast food place, and even restaurant with a bar had the same. Even the place that I went for meetings had a new flatscreen in the breakroom… with CNN on constantly.
