I spent 75 cents or so at the federal court website because I wanted to know what happened to her, what her sentence was etc. They took her in May of 2004 and she didn’t get sentenced until March 2005. One count of armed bank robbery and one count of using, carrying, or brandishing of firearm during crime of violence.
Looks like she got 18 months for the bank robbery and 5 years for using a gun to do it.
She pled out on 3/25/2005:

Bureau of Prisons for a term of 18 months on count 1 and 60 months on count 2, to be served consecutively. For those who aren’t local and/or are confused by this, I’m referring to this bank robber, who was a regular at the Diedrich Coffee we all hung out at. She also worked at the local Kinko’s and as a bagger at the grocery store.
She was always an odd person, very much obsessed with the occult and “magick,” and willing to bore almost anyone with lectures on the beauty of Crowleyian thought. I got along with her okay. After the grocery strike she was the only worker at the market who didn’t get the raise/good benefits deal on rehiring. She blamed this on her transgendered status and I have to agree. I’m not sure what led to the bank robbery but she wasn’t doing too well after the strike and fallout afterwards.
Whoo, 5 years in federal. Gun bad.

Yeah. From what I can tell, robbing a bank with a gun is a guaranteed trip to the federal pokey. There’s some discussion that she may have wanted that, since she wasn’t a total idiot, and it was the most botched and improbable bank robbery you could think of. She was certainly done with the way her life was going, and she had some odd ideas about her magical powers. It’s also possible that she thought she could get some kind of trans surgery in prison.

Both the federal and state courts really jack up the penalties if guns are involved. And I think that’s probably a good thing, in general.
How much money did she get? I’ve read that the average take for a bank robbery is very very small – like only a few thousand dollars or thereabouts.

I’m not sure how much she walked out with. It was obvious who she was, no mask, everyone in town knew her. They picked her up at home that night. The whole thing only makes sense as 1) deliberate imprisonment 2) insanity or 3) belief that magick would shield her. Or all three.

Indeed. Witness the fate of my friend and former classmate who made some bad choices and is currently serving 20 years…
(Apparently all newspaper archives cost money these days) depressed. unemployed. out of money. started robbing liquor stores for $500 at a time. always displayed a gun so no one would argue. sometimes the middle-class white kid DOES go to the jail for a long time…

I knew Bree since 1972. He was in a band with my now husband. He wasn’t always “odd,” but rather interesting and we had many conversations over coffee or tea. I knew his mother, sister, and his brother and were part of our “friendship family.” I took the photographs of his wedding. Yes he was married. He got into Crowley later in life, as well as the transgender thing. He was a man to us, and never really came out about his transgender thing to us. We found it hard to remain friends with him as he wasn’t well emotionally. A friend of ours called us and told us about the bank robbery and we were shocked. I didn’t believe him. I called him a liar and hung up on him. This person grew up with Brian and used to poke fun at the direction he went so we thought he was kidding. Well he wasn’t. Bree got into eastern religion along with us, and it is my opinion that led him to the occult. Unfortunately he got really into it and, yes, he could go on about his passion. We often think of him and wish him well.
