good day.

Didn’t have to do much work. salome_st_john took me to dinner at Lido Diner for my birthday and I ate chicken fried snake steak. Went to D’s and saw changeng‘s holiday show including audience participation craziness as documented in the last entry. bruisedhips, klikitak, and the_angelmoroni were… …entertaining as a singing group.

I saw people I hadn’t seen in forever and met some nice new people. Hi there mcpino! Also, people I hadn’t seen happy for months were practically glowing, which was awesome.

There was a fair amount of Six Degrees of WTF as people from different bits of my life recognized each other. “Oh, he’s the one in the motorcycle crash picture!” etc. There was some high-quality storytelling also, including: the awkwardness of a first BDSM date; a sweaty guy who brought a scorpion into the coffeehouse today just sitting on his hand; Jonathan Richman; and other stuff I forgot.

There was a guy with long grey hair and a leather jacket and a pockmarked face and he looked exactly like Bob Forrest from Thelonious Monster if Bob had aged normally since 1985. I wonder.

Stuart played really well, including a version of the Twelve Days of Christmas that sounded like it was done by the Curse Pirate on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride.

Now I’m having an ’01 Mondavi Merlot in my house that has the heater fixed finally. Life is good tonight.

    1. A guy I was talking to last night had just recently been introduced to Richman by accident (he got comped for a show and just wandered into) and was totally blown away. We were discussing Jonathan’s uniqueness, and gave him some background on who the guy was etc. Also that whoever put him in There’s Something About Mary is really cool because it means both that Jonathan probably got shitload of money and certainly got a whole new crop of fans.

      1. There’s an Irish bar (Duffys) that he plays at a lot here (in Chico). Supposedly one of the owners is his girlfriend’s dad, so he always tries to squeeze in a show when their in town for a visit.

      2. He loves Irish bars. In L.A., he played the Mucky Duck in Santa Monica. He’s very particular about venues and won’t play “normal” nightclubs unless he knows the owners or something.

    1. Oh, about 8:30…
…I was the asshole tubby guy rakishly handsome devil in the “I still hate george bush” t-shirt, trying to discreetly “top off” my coffees with Hennessey, talking occasionally with & & hanging with my pal (he was the one with the tail) & trying to not be too obnoxious. Where were you? Were you the one with the box of candy? I’m surprised C. didn’t introduce us. Or maybe not.
, it was such a pleasure to finally get to meet and talk to you! I wish I had had some more time, but I kinda had to watch Stuart, too – if only to see the reaction on ‘s face. Maybe we can hook up again some time & all have a drink or five!

I didn’t leave until after 9! I think I remember seeing you but I didn’t know it was you. Agh!
I was sitting at the two tables that were put together, right next to C. before he went in to listen to Stuart – I was the girl in the green blazer with the black scarf, jeans, black boots, and a pony tail. Didja see me?

        apparently not, for two reasons:
One, that group was engaged in what seemed to be a lively round of talk, and I wasn’t about to honk in on a buncha people I didn’t know, and
Two, if I had seen you, I probably would not be able to type this now, as I would’ve surely been struck blind by your beauty!
