Today’s translation

“I just wondered what the status on this was” is office-buzzspeak for “I hereby preemptively blame you for not carrying out a task that I did not explicitly assign to you or anyone else.”

  1. “I don’t remember if there was a decision made on that” means “I know we made a decision on that and I was supposed to do the work but I didn’t and now I’m pretending like we still haven’t finished talking about it because I am betting incorrectly that none of you actually remember.”

  2. in my office that means “i know we had a vague conversation about it in passing and i know i didn’t actually make a decision on how to proceed but i fully expect you to be taking some sort of action so that i can feel like you’re earning your meager keep around here.”
