It takes a nation of Babbitts to hold us back

Pornography, it seems, is poisoning our precious bodily fluids. I was especially taken with the quote from Ms. Layden who said that porn is the “most concerning thing to psychological health that I know of existing today.” COUGH alcohol COUGH

Via a lot of people ending in cordiloquy

Punchline:

“Judith Reisman of the California Protective Parents Association suggested that more study of “erototoxins” could show how pornography is not speech-protected under the First Amendment.”

Everything these whack jobs hate is either a drug or a terrorism, or both.

  1. That’s just fucking brilliant! Now we just need a term like “neoconservotoxins” and some studies showing just how fucking braindead it makes you. Oh! And how addictive it is. Especially to children. Yes. Won’t someone think of the children!?

  2. Government Underwriting of Graham Crackers
    Also posted to maggiesox:
Wow, it’s been less than a month an already they’re cranking the clock all the way back to Samual Tissot’s Treatise on the Diseases Produced by Onanism. This contained the idea that loss of semen under any condition made one sick,* and was popularized in 1834 by Sylvester Graham’s Lecture to Young Men. I’m sure you’ve heard of how the guy who made the brown sugar cracker had many strange ideas about health, anti-sex and hucksterism. I didn’t realize he also took part in the invention of granola and helped inspire Joseph Kellog in his own cereal and and sexual prudery health crusade. I bet they’d be surprised to find out it was the earthy free sex folks meal of choice. You can find this and more in a great article here: http://www.stayfreemagazine.org/10/graham.htm
It contains this quote which would apply to the recent senate hearings:
Graham knew his audience. With his solid grasp of rhetorical devices, he made claims no one could disprove–or rather, would disprove. Though people often disagreed on the particular causes of masturbation, most believed the symptoms were easy to recognize–victims were usually shy, suspicious, languid, unconcerned with hygiene, jaundiced. Graham used this to his advantage; in fact, he found most any health problem could be tied to masturbation. Only first-hand experience (yuk yuk) could disprove his claims and Graham came prepared to beat down any challengers with flamboyant, over-the-top gore. According to Graham, a masturbator grows up “with a body full of disease, and with a mind in ruins, the loathsome habit still tyrannizing over him, with the inexorable imperiousness of a fiend of darkness.”
    Hmmn…autoerototoxins anyone?
Can I just say to the powers that be: I was just kidding about that anti-sex league stuff I said in a recent post, okay? No reason for America to play out the life-as-satire thing, okay?

*You quote Dr. Stranglove quite accurately. Did you know this idea is part of the misogynist madness of cartoonist Dave Sim. An analysis of this (as only an educated fanboy can make) can be found here: http://www.aslan.demon.co.uk/sim-mad.htm

  3. Whenever you see someone who insists on being called “Dr.” in every quote, even in her domain name, you just know it’s bogus. Surprise surprise, according to Wikipedia, she’s got a Ph.D. in Communications.
And on her website she quotes the support of “Dr. Laura” Schlessinger (doctor of physiology). It’s like a perfect circle of dumb.
I have to say though, I don’t think 24/7 broadband pornography, especially the corporate kind, is totally harmless. I don’t think that lumps me in with the gay-haters or the prudes or the pseudo-scientists.
