Did Nena snuff it at the Fairview offramp this morning or something?

Some woman in a Hummer Limo apparently committed suicide on the freeway at 5 this morning by leaping out of it. The news reports say they had been at a “celebrity event” (nice phrase) and then at a party in Costa Mesa. Also that she was in a “German band”. Unsurprisingly, there may have been alcohol involved!

So, what German band was at a Celebrity Event, then came down to this hub of culture and excitement called Costa Mesa and partied until 5 am, and then got in their Hummer Limo to go back to L.A. only to be interrupted by this lady’s suicide?

Edit: Now it says she was in a “popular German punk band”. I’d put up the Drudge siren because it’s a DEVELOPING… story but I’m lazy.

Seychelles: ship quarantined off Reunion – undiagnosed fatal illness

A French medical laboratory in Lyons has dismissed any likelihood of
Marburg hemorrhagic fever on board the bulk carrier Clipper Lancaster.
The ship is being held in quarantine off the Indian Ocean island of
Reunion. The nature of the mystery fever that claimed the life of a
Rumanian seafarer and left a 2nd sailor seriously ill remains
unidentified, however.

The 2 seafarers, members of a crew of 22, became ill soon after the 28
429 dead weight tonnage ship left Durban on 5 Jun 2005, where it had
stopped briefly to refuel. The surviving crewman has been responding to
treatment. Before calling at Durban, the ship had loaded lumber at
Pointe Noire in Congo Brazzaville and had called earlier at Angolan
ports. A serious outbreak of Marburg fever is raging in northern
Angola.

Authorities in La Reunion said the vessel would be allowed to continue
its voyage to China once the body had been removed. A postmortem would
not be performed.

ahh SHIT, i liked this guy

Karl Mueller died.

Met him on their first tour in 1985. I’d really loved Say What You Will, Clarence: Karl Sold the Truck, especially “Religiavision”, and then they put out Made to be Broken and wow, had to go see them. They played the Anti-Club and maybe 10 people showed up. Oddly I kept meeting people years later who’d been at that show. Soul Asylum was a really amazing band around that time; loud and passionate. They did great mashups, too. I particularly remember them doing a mash of Gang of Four’s “Damaged Goods” with Prince’s “The Cross”.

Unfortunately by the time they started to do really well they’d changed their musical style almost completely and I didn’t enjoy it. I liked everything up to Hang Time, but when they got into that “Runaway Train” phase they totally lost me.

Weird irony that Karl got throat cancer. I’d expected Dave to croak (literally) from that, the way he destroyed his voice.
