I remember someone on the now-defunct Southern Lord forum posting about a fella who’d put an ad in a Chicago music shop, wanting to form a black metal band. He phoned him up, only to find that his idea of Unholy Black Metal was Cradle of Filth & Pantera. When he told him he wanted to play something “darker, like Burzum”, he got this response:
“What the fuck’s a burzum?”
