Sometimes the IP logging feature on LJ is a beautiful thing, especially when Homeland Security employees think they’re being all badass by flaming you for your political views from work.
Back to work, you. I pay you to beat up Mexicans and lose the city of New Orleans, not click around on the internet like a bunch of Kansas City faggots.
oh snap

“Back to work, you. I pay you to beat up Mexicans and lose the city of New Orleans, not click around on the internet like a bunch of Kansas City faggots,” he said, apparently without irony.
I, on the other hand, am not convinced that the original commenter was even human. I would be entirely unsurprised if the comment originated from a badly written Perl script designed to troll discussion boards automatically, looking to surface “extreme” viewpoints.

Hm, maybe you didn’t get the reference? Not sure what you mean about “apparently without irony.”
Differentiating idiots on the Internet from badly written Perl scripts is the newest and most challenging Turing test.

Oh, you did intend the irony then. Sorry. My bad. I forget that not everyone regards the DHS as I do, mainly as a method for starving the federal budget of everything not having to do with soldiers, cops, prisons and spies.
What the DHS was doing in that post was counter-intelligence work, trying to identify, localize and if ordered, neutralize threats to its budget. It’s not very good at it now, but it’s learning. Soon enough, it will know how to silence its online critics more effectively and use its powers to keep its massive incompetence officially secret. It’s got a way to go yet, so in the meantime, enjoy the parade of Kool-aid drinkers as they wander through.
It only gets worse from here on down.

I have a simpler explanation, actually. Some no-neck working for the Border Patrol found it on Google and yelled at me on the Internet because he was doing that instead of working.
I doubt that anyone engaged in counterintelligence in a serious way would just call me a moron in a screened anonymous LJ post. I’d just go in the file with the others.
One of the great lessons of the Eastern Bloc years is that oppressors aren’t very competent or hard-working.

I’d be inclined to agree if I hadn’t seen news stories (can’t remember where right now) saying that DHS and DOD were actually doing this as a matter of official policy now. It’s hard to believe they would do something this stupid and ineffectual, but then the hurricanes last year obliterated my sense of what is and isn’t too stupid and ridiculous when it comes to DHS and DOD policy making.
