foo2rama points to a great LA Times article about Southern California’s own little dictatorship permanent oligarchic authoritarian state 19th century company town city of Vernon, a town of slaughterhouses, ammunition factories, and a geriatric Politburo.
Until now, Vernon was just part of the patchwork in my Thomas Brothers guide. There’s a great movie here, I suspect. =)
