Unpopular suggestion

Conservative religious types are saying that the destruction of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast was an angry God’s response to abortion, or homosexuality, or our failure to teach the Ten Commandments in schools.

A lot of countries abort, and tolerate gays, and fail to teach Biblical morality in schools. I haven’t seen a lot of massive natural disasters in Sweden or New Zealand lately, though.

I wonder how many conservative Christians have considered that the Old Testament God of Wrath might be upset at us over the war?

Let’s dare the nation’s pastors to ask that question this Sunday. Amos, Isaiah, and Jeremiah would.

      1. Actually, having just done a quick tour of the web, I can see citations for a few people saying that we’re being punished for forcing Israel to pull out of Gaza, but nothing about abortion or homosexuals.
Of course, it’s much easier to find the claims that Katrina is a direct consequence of our environmental gluttony and our warmongering administration, so I guess the liberals win this round of interpreting the weather as a moral event.

  1. hmmm…
if that is true, then why did the hurricane strike in the Bible Belt rather than in Massachusettes or Vermont, where the liberal pinko commies live?
of course, that would have been too obvious…right???
