That’s so great. I’ve got the 1976 Karajan cycle at home and I never listen to it because (1) HOLY FUCK I CAN’T STAND KARAJAN ANYMORE IT’S SO SHALLOW and (2) I can’t bother buying another cycle because I already have one. This is one time I’d rather CDs than mp3, but I’ll still enjoy the recording more than Karajan’s dog and pony show. The Karajan cycle has a pretty box, at least.
(That said, I should really check out the Rattle/Vienna cycle too. I love Rattle’s Mahler. I really need to get listening to classical music again, although Beethoven is either a touch too early or far too late for me.)
