I started out to write a self-analytical bit about my own failures and how to amend them, and then realized that this kind of journaling is one of said failures. So you just read a meta-failure.
I’m taking a week off in May, partly to go up to SF to see Gang of Four on the 2nd, but generally to clear my head if possible. I hope to spend a couple of days idling on the Central Coast in the SLO area, and otherwise no idea. I should go out in the desert and photograph the wildflowers, as they’re exceptional this year. Suggestions welcome. No, I’m not going up to Portland! I don’t have enough time for that if I’m going to do anything else.
Last night as I was looking up at the wind slapping the palm trees around I realized that I need trees around me. If I don’t have a tree break occasionally I get unhappy. What’s that about, I wonder?
don’t go north of SF.. i always get a fucking speeding ticket, the bastards.
ALWAYS.

From SLO north on 101 to Santa Margarita, then east on 58, takes you to the Carrizo Plain, which is a very interesting wildlife area–there’s a tiny visitor center and not much else. Worth a detour. Also the area east of Highway 25, from just south of Hollister toward the long-abandoned New Idria mercury mine, is very nice, especially at this time of year.

Highway 1 from Cambria to Big Sur is something I never get tired of. And it doesn’t take as long as one might think.

Beats me, man, but that’s why I had to leave New York. It’s good to have regular reminders that not everything is man-made.

Ahh…North…
I love leaving LA….and going north is nothing short of it…101 is great all around…there’s the hot springs in Pismo Beach, if you’re interested…public hot tubs to soak a weary traveler…www.sycamoresprings.com. They use to have 24 hour public hot springs…looks like they don’t anymore. I consider it my halfway point from LA to San Jose. Definitely enjoy the break from LA/OC counties. 🙂
