It’s topical, too, what with events in the Congo.

And then at the end, you find Walt himself, mad and murderous in the heart of the jungle, his hut ringed by severed heads on pikes, gibbering out his hatred for mankind: exterminate the brutes.

If you want, you can buy a picture of your drawn, fear-filled face as he says “The horror…” to you in the ride’s last flume.

For Veterans Day maybe they can redo it in a Vietnam theme and have Robert Duvall sign autographs outside!

Oh, wait. There’s already a ride. This is the movie part. I can’t wait for the happy ending!!

  1. I totally understand your cynicism, but I think you missed an important detail that could make all the difference. The movie is being written by the guys who wrote Tin Cup. Tin Cup, Ignatz. What’s that? There, in the jungle? It’s Oscar buzz!
To tell you the truth, as an aficionado of Disneyland and the ride in question, I would love to write this movie. Murderous mechanical hippos on the rampage. A disinterested, cyncial teenage riverboat captain armed only with tired puns and a plastic gun loaded with blanks. Racially insensitive depictions of Africans treed by robotic rhinos. Tired tourists who got on the boat by mistake, disappearing one by one in the pitch black night. And the rats, Conrad, the rats. God, please let them fire the Tin Cup guys and give it to me.
