media advice

Watch the page 14 little bits of the news for the next couple of days to see what they try to hide behind the vast outpouring of Princess Di-type wailing and gimpschmerz over the death of Mr. Reeve. Just a friendly reminder from your pal the Paranoid Cynic.

  1. Am I the only person on LJ who is completely unaffected by the fact that Christopher Reeve (yes, he was Superman, I know I know!) died? Am I just a big heartless bitch?

It’s very rare that I feel real dismay about the death of a “personality”. The first to genuinely sadden me was Phil Lynott, but I was pretty young & unaware of the narcotic trough in which he was stuck.

  2. what’s worse is the whining of every joe shmo with a livejournal.
The media has some sort of “obligation” to write an article, listening to your friends list complain about how this is affecting them so deeply is the most annoying thing ever.

He was one of the most visible champions of a specific cause. Perhaps people are making the facile assumption that any hope for that cause died with him?

How long until CNN has a graphic for it? My money says by lunch.

  3. I think it’s a shame that he’s now become this weird superhuman/crippled dual-celebrity…leaving aside all the paralysis research stuff, I have a lot of respect for him for things he did before all that, most notably being outspoken in favor of general support of the arts and against crazy nutcase interference. I recall seeing him shut down Pat Robertson in a debate on CNN when Smiley was on another “well folks we have to stop all this gubmint sponsorship of EEEEVIL ART”
