The continuing decline of the City of God

Metafilter had this gem, about that MAGAZINE BIBLE THING, this time with videos illustrating the problem:

“The Bible is so big and freaky looking”
“Too much information”
“It’s like Shakespeare or something”

whereas this new format:

“I’d carry this magazine around!”
“It has beauty tips. It’s good to look beautiful.”

You know, if you reduced the Koran to a fashion magazine you’d be.. dead.

  1. God threw down for us, man…give Him his props yo!
When you die, we’all judged, but dude, check it, Jebus gots you back…he says hold up, this chick is part of my crew.
I do not want to make a snap judgment, but I think that it is too easy to water-down a message so that it becomes more appealing. I do not remember seeing make up tips in my bible…what book of the bible is that based on?

  2. Good to look beautiful?
I’ll tell what what’s good. It’s good to know not to fuck with prophets:

And he went up from thence unto Bethel, and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.
    — II Kings 2:23-24

Is your fashion mag bible going to tell you that shit? I DON’T THINK SO.
