O.C.’s own terrorist wack job Adam Gadahn is the star of Al Qaeda’s latest video, in which Melbourne and Los Angeles are threatened. You know, it would be appropriate if the next totally fucked-up terrorist attack was carried out by yet another freaky Californian who’s been doing cults and subcultures for years and finally found the one that would piss off his parents the most.
I bet Al Qaeda is only going to show videos until they get an audience built, though. Then it will be game shows and comedy and drama series, and they’ll start showing videos on AQ1…
The owner of a pretty decent dim sum and noodle joint here apparently flipped out and shot at some beach partiers. Way to handle your noise complaint, Mr. O’Neill. I wonder what working for him at Ho Sum Bistro is like?

“In the Depression years, most of us were in the same boat, working to the same ends, helping one another. That isn’t true today — in Newport-Mesa or in the United States — and it needs to be addressed.”

LAREDO, Texas (AP) — A Mexican army convoy began crossing into the United States on Thursday to bring aid to victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Carrying water treatment plants and mobile kitchens that can feed 7,000 people daily, the convoy bound for San Antonio is the first Mexican military unit to operate on U.S. soil since 1846.
God bless ’em. After all they’ve been through with us, that is incredibly cool.
Now that Flickr is getting very popular, it’s almost useless for getting photos from world events. Just a few months ago, getting a tag feed for some newsworthy current event returned pictures from people at the scene. The immediacy and the alternative to the wire services made it interesting.
Now everyone just uses Flickr as a generic photo hosting service and reposts wire service photos to reuse them on their blogs. It’s impossible to plow through all that noise to find the gems people are posting that you’ll never see on Yahoo! News Photos.

Now it seems she’d had lots of previous drug and alcohol problems and at least one suicide attempt, and had lost custody of her two children because of it; they were in foster care. And apparently (at least for now), her boyfriend was in a German band and they spoke some German, but she was working at the Wal-Mart when she met him. And the credit card they used that night wasn’t theirs. And her boyfriend had tried to off himself when they broke up the last time and they’d reunited in a mental hospital. It’s just awful.
Anyone heard of a techno band called the Klash? Or did he just make that up too?
Once again I can report that the Purple Monkey Dishwasher from torgo_x and the Dissociated Press provides the best news coverage. Samples from today’s edition:
