… Randy from the Big Boys is gone. I never saw them, but they were one of my favorite American punk bands. They put the funk in the punk with honesty and heart. Wish I’d got to meet you, Randy.

The downward spiral of post-modern irony, post-ironic modernity, self-reference, reference to previous crap pop culture, and tongue-in-cheek tongue-in-cheekness has arrived finally at Vice Records’ “Do They Know It’s Halloween“.
Also, it’s not funny.
This is fun, via genericus. Wow, a lot of classic music happened the year I was born. The kind of stuff you put in the boom box for the beach in summer nowadays: Early Beatles, Motown R&B, etc. Plus both “House of the Rising Sun” and “Surfin’ Bird”! Woo! I’m sure I like a couple of the Al Hirt tunes because my parents had a few of his records when I was a little kid that I enjoyed, like “Honey in the Horn”.
Go to http://www.musicoutfitters.com and put your birth year into the search thingy. The first link is likely the top 100 songs of that year. Cut and paste that list here. Bold the ones you actually like. Understand that the word “like” in this case means, in the very least, “wouldn’t immediately change the radio station from.” Pick a favorite. Underline that favorite.
Okay, so. CORRECTION! It wasn’t Jessica Roe from “Les Hell on Heels”. It was Jessica Rowe, of Irvine. And she and her boyfriend claimed to be in Rammstein but their connection to the band is “unknown”. OC Register story below.

Camphone pic from the limo driver.
Some woman in a Hummer Limo apparently committed suicide on the freeway at 5 this morning by leaping out of it. The news reports say they had been at a “celebrity event” (nice phrase) and then at a party in Costa Mesa. Also that she was in a “German band”. Unsurprisingly, there may have been alcohol involved!
So, what German band was at a Celebrity Event, then came down to this hub of culture and excitement called Costa Mesa and partied until 5 am, and then got in their Hummer Limo to go back to L.A. only to be interrupted by this lady’s suicide?
Edit: Now it says she was in a “popular German punk band”. I’d put up the Drudge siren because it’s a DEVELOPING… story but I’m lazy.

changeng sings and Carlos glowers. Envy does terrible things to the soul of a monkey.
A while ago, someone I didn’t know died. He was an LJ person that some friends of mine here knew and liked. I read back through his journal and kinda liked him too.
He was a serious left winger, and someone posted an MP3 of “The Internationale” that was his favorite. I downloaded it and loved it too! It sounded very klezmer, but I couldn’t pick out the language, and there wasn’t any artist info in the file.
I was reminded of it the other day by seeing this huge collection of versions of the Internationale in 20 languages, so I went on a search for “klezmer Internationale”.
Found it! It is, of course a Japanese Klezmer Internationale done by a group called Soul Flower Mononoke Summit, from their album “Levelers Ching Dong”. And it’s on that big page, too, as I noticed when I went back to see if the Internationale collector had it.
So anyway that’s my Obscure Japanese Communist Klezmer-Ish Folk Music story for the day.
Holy shit! Stockhausen is going to play a concert in London! I hope he does a WORLD TOUR and shows up in COSTA MESA at the DETROIT BAR! YOW!!!
Seriously I’d love to see an 82-year-old German mad scientist weirdo composer do electronic music. But he’ll never come to the States.
Public sale date is August 6, presale is now with this link.

But, you know. The problem of leisure.
I fled from the worst “Irish” band ever to the new Diedrich to see changeng play. He’s as good as ever, including a fine interpretation of Trio’s “Da Da Da” for toy piano and a disco medley followed by Eminem/Vanilla Ice mashup. He seems to pick the songs that make people laugh but also sing along, which is a very fine line. It was nice to see Sandi too. I rarely get over to that place. joyfulagitator and I were sitting on the couch when a guy walks in and she immediately says “Well, he’s a complete asshole.” I looked around and saw him, and got the same instant impression. About 3 minutes later I remembered him; he’s the guy from the 12-step group who challenged me to a fight for absolutely no reason a few years ago, and went insane when I refused. As I was leaving I heard him say to one of his group “Yeah, I’m just a cop magnet. Even after I’m sober. Why’s that?”
