Support Ticket #43942 (P0) (Network)

Folks,

Could someone in I.T. take a look at Diane’s PC. She’s out on vacation this week, but it’s been acting funny and no one on 8 West can print. Also, we stranded tens of thousands of people for a whole day and brought international travel to a halt and caused worldwide news. Whenever you stop by 8 West next could you check her pc? thanks

Guys if you could look at this right now it would be great.

(AP) LOS ANGELES The source of last weekend’s system breakdown at Los Angeles International Airport has been traced to a malfunctioning network interface card on a single desktop computer.

U.S. Customs officials say the card — — which allows computers to connect to a local area network — experienced a partial failure around 12:50 p.m. Saturday that had a domino effect with other computer network cards.

A total system failure occurred a little after 2 p.m., leaving more than 17,000 inbound international travelers stranded in the terminal or on airplanes because authorities were unable to screen them.

The malfunction prompted city and state leaders to request briefings and reports from customs and aviation officials.

The system was up and running again by 4 a.m. Sunday, but experienced a second 80 minute outage late Sunday into early Monday, which was blamed on a power supply failure.

Mail your child to Nickelodeon

I was at the arrivals level of LAX Terminal 4 today, waiting for my mother to get off her plane. There were some women in brightly colored cheerful clothing there at an information station with brightly colored cheerful signs. At first I thought it said “Kid Check” and I got the phear. On closer examination it was “Kids’ Choice Awards”. I guess there were unaccompanied children arriving to take part in this Nickelodeon event.

The women in the cheerful teachery outfits were rushing about talking on walkie talkies and with stern men in suits and it was all very professional-looking. I guess that’s a good idea so that little Mortimer and Britney-Anne don’t get snatched up by the local CHUDs and ground up into hapless little pedo-burgers.

This is a weird town.

Airport

Went to pick up my mother at LAX. International Arrivals is great people watching. Today was also the day of Themed Plane Arrivals:

My mom’s flight was Singapore Airlines from Tokyo/Narita. Almost all of the passengers were Japanese business guys who immediately pulled the cellphone out of one pocket and the cigarettes out of another and rushed outside to use both. One spiky haired young Japanese guy wearing stripy weird clothing and Vans was met by an obsequious limo driver.

An Aeromexico flight from Guadalajara brought what looked like about 50 Mexican art students. All of them were about 20 and most of them were carrying some kind of portfolio. I think it’s time we woke up to the danger here. All those art students are swarming across the border and taking our barista jobs and/or seats at the coffeehouse where they can whine about not making it.

Finally an El Al jet disgorged lots of beautiful, beautiful, beautiful Jew girls all of whom had long flowing dark hair, big earrings, classic Mediterranean features, and huge smiles. They strode happily down the ramp and were immediately intercepted by nervous men in yarmulkes before the rest of us could get at them.

There was also a Sikh family of about 25 who all greeted each other expansively with a factorial number of hugs exactly in the gangway so no one could get through. This happens each time and I suspect it’s the same family.
