The Sad thing is, of course, Haiti’s history in throwing off the oppression of slavery, only to acquire a different type of oppression.

Sorry about that. I meant that post as a comment on Fledgling’s post “The Audacity of Hopelessness” http://fledgist.livejournal.com/743389.html, John Maxwell’s column on some of Haiti’s problems.

I’ve been suspicious of tinyurl without thinking the matter through. It’s good to see the issue argued out.
… I think that Suck.com broke taught me the rhetoric of the hyperlink, and it’s sad to go back to the archives and realize that half of its content (those parts not on the Suck servers) is gone.
I miss Suck. They made the first dot-com bubble more bearable.
I once proposed marriage to Heather Havrilesky. (It seemed obligatory at the time.)
