It depends on the brand and type of bike. 17th street 2 Wheels One Planet for Bianchi, and I think they can order lots of stuff. I mean, they’re authorized dealers for a lot of brands.

The bike I like a lot that’s city bike-ish is the Bianchi Boardwalk. They have it at 2 Wheels, er, they did a few weeks ago. http://www.bianchiusa.com/05_boardwalk.html
I still kinda want one, but I am confused by the want/need and pretty/functional brain fight.
If you’re looking for the Trek type of brand, you could also consider Giant and Felt. Giant makes a number of comfort and crossover bikes. Giant is currently a little difficult to find in OC, but there are 3 shops that still deal with them.
Felt is a local company…and by local, I mean Irvine (I believe they have moved their warehouse to Corona). They have good bikes that aren’t too expensive. Because they are local, they are carried by a lot of shops. If you want to go that direction, let me know and I will see what kind of price I can get for you.
i, too, suggest two wheels one planet. i’ve never had anyone try to sell me something unreasonable there. in fact, when hil went to look at a bike there, as she sat on it, the sales guy flat out told her it was a little big for her, even though they didn’t have the right size in stock. i’m in there freqently spending very little money and they are always super nice.
i don’t know what the service plans (free tune-ups, etc.) are like at the local shops, but that would be my deciding factor. and something close to home is obviously preferable.

Rock-n-road just opened a new store in Irvine. The Irvine store is a Trek store and has a large selection of Trek bikes (if nothing else). They are up Sand Canyon, north of the 5 a couple miles. They are the close shop that is likely to have what you need. The other Rock N’ Road stores are not Trek specific.
Kings in Seal Beach probably won’t have what you’re looking for. They cary more high end stuff and they are a small shop.
Cycle Werks is also a tiny shop. They do cary Trek, but won’t have a very big selection. They might have something that they are trying to dump for less money.
2 Wheels One Planet…well…you COULD go there. They do have a selection, but the kids that work there are more likely to sell you something than sell you something that fits. That place is not particularly well run and they have a tendency to forget to order things that you’ve already paid for.

I’m probably going to get some Trek crossover/city bike. My needs are simple. I just need to be light and comfortable and have lots of gears.
